Pastors and church leaders will gather in Billy Graham Hall to learn from a lineup of Christian scholars and reflect on the unique role of evangelism in a post-Christian culture.
On Oct. 19–20, Wheaton College will host the Litfin Symposium in honor of the naming of the A. Duane Litfin School of Mission, Ministry, and Leadership after President Emeritus Dr. Duane Litfin HON. Church leaders and pastors will gather on Wheaton’s campus to reflect on the theme, “Contending for Gospel Witness in a Disillusioned Culture,” in response to Dr. Litfin’s exhortation to the Church to evangelize effectively amid rapidly shifting cultural values.
The symposium commences with a dinner on Wednesday with a keynote address by Dr. James Davidson Hunter. On Thursday, Dr. Sam Chan and Rev. Dr. John Dickson will present on gospel truth within the context of radical subjectivism. Dr. Gavin Ortlund and K.A. Ellis will lead the second session. Wheaton’s Associate Professor of New Testament Dr. Esau McCaulley will join Dr. Karen Swallow Prior for the third session followed by a final session with Dr. Charlie Dates and Dr. Alan Noble.
Litfin will deliver a closing address at 7:00 p.m. in Blanchard Hall, open to non-ticket holders.
Litfin served as the seventh president of Wheaton College from 1993 to 2010. Prior to his tenure at Wheaton, he earned doctorates at Purdue University and Oxford University, taught at Dallas Theological Seminary, and served as senior pastor of First Evangelical Church in Memphis, Tennessee. He is well-known for his faithful contributions to the College and the global Church, including his book Conceiving the Christian College (Eerdmans, 2004).
