Students can apply today for Wheaton’s new fully flexible M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies.
Starting in fall 2021, students will have the opportunity to start a part-time M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies program, the first fully flexible program offered through Wheaton College’s School of Biblical and Theological Studies.
Wheaton’s M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies prepares students to study and interpret the Bible for the purposes of practical ministry and the enrichment of contemporary Christian life. The program is available in a traditional, in-person format, as well as part-time, flexible formats.
“The impetus for this fully flexible program is really the audience,” said Theology Professor Dr. Marc Cortez, who also serves as the program director for the M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies. “Historically, this program has attracted full-time working professionals, so we wanted to offer flexible courses that students could better fit into their own schedules.”
The majority of the courses in the 36-credit program will be online with additional optional opportunities to connect online with faculty and fellow students. Rounding out the program is a summer intensive in which students can take one or two courses on the campus of Wheaton College.
“Coming together for the intensive really does shape the learning experience in really important ways,” Dr. Cortez said. “We’ve often heard students talk about how different it is to do an online course when they have also had some face-to-face interactions with other students and faculty members. It changes the way they interact with one another online, and it makes the online courses really come alive.”
Students enrolling in the M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies program can choose from either a Bible or Theology track, and they will be able to complete the program in two to three years. Residential students might be able to complete the course in as little as one year, depending on how many courses they take each semester.
“My hope is that this program becomes a viable way for people inside or outside of the Wheaton area to access Wheaton-caliber biblical and theological training that equips them for a lifetime of effective ministry,” Dr. Cortez said.
