Wheaton College believes all students should have the opportunity to complete at least one internship while in college. And because summer is a prime opportunity to complete an internship, offices/centers across Wheaton’s campus offer awards to make unpaid internships more affordable.
Apply to receive financial support for your unpaid and underpaid summer internship using Wheaton’s Common Internship Scholarship and Fellowship Grant Application.
This common application can be used to apply to any or all of the following scholarships:
- CVC Summer Internship Scholarship and Fellowship Grant
- Wheaton Center for Faith, Politics, and Economics Intern Award
- GPS International Internship Travel Award
Internship Common Application Scholarships and Fellowship Grants
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the 2024 CVC Internship Scholarships and Fellowship Grants is to provide funding for class of 2025, 2026, and 2027 undergraduate students to supplement an unpaid or underpaid summer internship experience.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Must have Wheaton undergraduate student status during summer 2024.
- You must have secured or actively be in the process of securing an internship when you submit your application. If anything changes regarding your internship location, compensation, length, etc., please contact internships@wheaton.edu to update your application. Final awards will not be disbursed until the internship is confirmed with documentation.
- You must be a student in good standing with the college. Students with ongoing disciplinary concerns, academic probation, or chapel probation are ineligible.
- Internships must be a minimum of 240 on-site hours AND 6 weeks in length.
- Students doing international internships will be required to have completed all necessary steps as prescribed by GPS.
- HNGR students are not eligible for this scholarship award because of the availability of funds through the HNGR program.
- Students completing internships or research on-campus or where the employer would be Wheaton College are not eligible for funding.

- Wednesday, March 13, 2024 @ 11:59PM CST – Application and Faculty/Staff Recommendation deadline
- Mid-March - International Awards announced
- Early April - Domestic Scholarship Awards announced
- Sunday, April 14, 2024 @ 11:59PM CST – Signed Acceptance Contract Due (confirmation of internship is due by this date)
- Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 10:30-11:15 AM – Preparing for Your Summer Internship Workshop (attendance is required)
- June – Funds Disbursed
Post-Internship
- September 2024 - Internship Debrief/Presentation Event (required attendance)
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
- Scholarships and Fellowship Grants will be awarded on a sliding scale, meaning students can apply for up to $5,000 for an unpaid or underpaid internship experience. Students will need to justify their request for funds with a simple budget that will be completed in this application.
- Applications will be evaluated based on financial need as well as the merit of the internship experience as it relates to exploration and career competency development. Students who identify as belonging to any population that may experience limited access to internship opportunities are highly encouraged to apply.
- The internship does not need to be completed for credit, but can be, to qualify for this scholarship. However, F-1 visa international students must receive credit for the internship, and pursue additional authorization with the ISP office (see FAQ's).
- Scholarship awardees are required to complete the myInternship curriculum (~1 hr/week) while completing their summer internship.
PURPOSE:
The GPS Internship Travel Awards are available to provide partial support to students who wish to undertake internships for their major/minor or graduate degree program in an international or cross-cultural context. Applications will be evaluated both on the basis of merit and demonstrated financial need. Awards of up to $1,000 may be applied toward the costs of travel or living expenses.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Students may apply who will have met the eligibility requirements of their major/minor field of study or graduate degree program to enroll in an internship by the time the internship begins.
- All applicants must be in good academic and student development standing, and be eligible for international/off-campus travel with Wheaton College.
- These funds may NOT be applied toward an HNGR internship.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS: Applicants selected to receive the International Internship Travel Grant are required to complete or have completed a GoGlobal application for their associated internship and be registered for an academic internship or zero-credit internship (G ST 490: Internship – 0 credit.) Grant funds will not be disbursed until ALL internship application requirements are complete on GoGlobal.
PURPOSE:
Students interested in theoretical and practical aspects of political economy are invited to apply for the FPE Intern awards. Internships should fit within the mission of the Center, which seeks to train students in the understanding of market economies, representative democracies, limited government, and the redeeming effects of the Christian worldview on the practice of business, government and politics.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Alignment with the purpose stated above.
- Internships must be a minimum of 6 weeks. If for credit, must comply with departmental requirements
