The Christ at the Core Fall Series features co-curricular events throughout the fall semester that highlight key themes of the core curriculum. These multi-disciplinary events allow Wheaton College to discuss the enduring value and significance of using a Christ-centered approach to study the liberal arts. For 2024, the Fall Series will address questions related to Suffering, Death, and Hope.

A panel discussion with a palliative care Nurse Practitioner, an ethicist, and a pastor - addressing physical, practical, ethical, and spiritual/pastoral questions that people commonly have about dying.

A screening of Martin Scorsese’s film adaptation of Shusaku Endo’s Silence, a novel about Japan's hidden Christians during the time of the great persecution-and the priests who seek to serve God with them.

Waiting on the Slow Work of God: How the Habit of Hope Transforms Us - with Tish Harrison Warren

A talk by Tish Harrison Warren on Hope and the Wade Center authors. Tish Harrison Warren is a writer and an Anglican priest, and is the author of several books, including Liturgy of the Ordinary: Sacred Practices in Everyday Life and Prayer in the Night: For Those Who Work, or Watch, or Weep.

Hosted by John Dickson, the Jean Kvamme Distinguished Professor of Biblical Studies and Public Christianity at Wheaton College, this feature-length documentary chronicles the journey of the earliest known Christian hymn – complete with lyrics and musical notation - from its Egyptian desert origins to its modern resurrection, as composers Chris Tomlin and Ben Fielding transform the ancient melody into a contemporary worship piece.

A Timbered Choir: The Witness of Creation

An evening of music, poetry, and art celebrating the wonders and witness of creation, featuring the world premiere of “A Timbered Choir.” Composed by Joshua Rodriguez with words by Wendell Berry; performed by the Wheaton College Concert Choir under the direction of John William Trotter; with reflections by Kristen Page, Tiffany Kriner, and Joel Sheesley
