Keeping Our Classrooms Up-to-Date
Each year, Academic and Institutional Technology works with Facilities and Wheaton College faculty to update our oldest classrooms. AIT utilizes input from the Technology and Information Resources Subcommittee (TIR) and other faculty to ensure that our classrooms are best equipped for how faculty use their teaching spaces in a way that is affordable and sustainable.
Classroom updates can include anything from digital upgrades to moveable furniture that allows for a flexible workspace for students. Moveable furniture gives the opportunity for students to quickly and easily break into smaller groups for discussions during class.
In January, classroom updates were presented as an SPCC Strategic Initiative, as AIT does not have the necessary funding to maintain our classroom technology on a reasonable timeframe. We are currently working to get additional funding for classroom technology updates, as we recognize the importance of keeping our classroom technology up-to-date and in working condition. AIT is committed to using our limited funding to develop and refresh classroom technology in a way that best supports our faculty’s scholarship and pedagogy now and into the future.
Over Spring Break, BGC 134 was upgraded to enable high and low technology small-group work around the room. As classrooms like this one are updated, AIT offers optional training for faculty to get to know the new and updated technology in their teaching spaces.
If you have any questions about the classroom refresh cycle, please contact Academic and Institutional Technology by email or call 630.752.4357 (HELP).
