Upgrading Our Classrooms Over the Summer
Each year, Academic and Institutional Technology works with Facilities and Wheaton College faculty to update our oldest classrooms. AIT utilizes input from the Technology and Information Resources Subcommittee (TIR) and other faculty to ensure that our classrooms are best equipped for how faculty use their teaching spaces in a way that is affordable and sustainable.
This summer, 14 classrooms on campus are being refurbished. Classrooms are chosen based upon the age of their technology, as well as reports of performance issues that the AIT Service Desk receive.
The classrooms being upgraded this summer are:
- BGC 134, 140, 252, 254
- Meyer 011, 042, 131, 133, 143, 145, 184, 304
- Adams 101, 106, 301
AIT is following a new process for classroom upgrades that involves the Provost, Department Chairs, the Registrar, and affected faculty early in the process. Then, we meet twice more with the affected faculty to discuss their pedagogy and teaching materials. Within the constraints of a tight budget, AIT seeks to match the most appropriate technologies to the teaching styles of those who utilize the space most frequently. Toward the end of the process, faculty are invited to review the design drawings before they go out to bid.
Additionally, it is a priority to replace the pink and beige hard desks with newer tables that are more comfortable, accommodate left-handed students, and are easier to arrange and move for small group work or discussions.
