To Drop a Course:
- A quad courses must be dropped before the 5th day of the course.
- Full-term courses must be dropped by the 10th day of the course.
- To drop a course during this time period:
- Log into the Registration dashboard
- Select "add/drop classes"
- Navigate to your summary window
- Find the class you'd like to drop
- Select drop/delete from the pull-down file next to the course
- Select submit
To Drop with a "W":
After the 5th day of a quad course, or the 10th day of a full term course, you may still drop a course, but you will receive a "W" on your transcript to indicate that you were registered for the course, but chose to remove withdraw from the course.
- Complete the "Course Drop with a W" form on the undergraduate forms page.
- Make sure that you receive all signatures, including your faculty advisor and a signature from the department, if necessary. (Your faculty advisor can be found on the top of your degreeworks record. Their email is listed in the mail icon in degreeworks.)
- Turn in the form to the office of the registrar before the deadline.
Academic Petition
Under rare circumstances, students may feel an exception to policy is warranted due to unique circumstances. Examples of exception to policy must always be addressed through the academic petition process. The academic petition may be found on the undergraduate forms page. Examples of exception to policy may include:
- participating in commencement with more than one requirement left
- adding a course after the deadlines has passed
Course Review Petition
Occasionally, students may have taken a course via transfer credit that they feel has been articulated differently than they expected it to be. Students have the right to file a course review petition to see if a thematic core attribute can apply to the course or if the course can be articulated differently. This is done by completing a course review petition, and occasionally, by also completing an academic petition. Students must submit the petition along with a course syllabus. Repair Your GPA
Students looking to repair their GPA should consider:
- Retaking the course at Wheaton: When courses are retaken at Wheaton, both grades appear on the official Wheaton College transcript, but the retake grade is the value used for the final calculation in the Wheaton GPA.
- Retaking the course via transfer credit: When students would like to retake a course outside of Wheaton, they must receive approval via the transfer credit approval form. Grades for credits accepted for transfer courses are not included when determining a student's cumulative grade point average at Wheaton; however, students must earn a "C-" or above for the credit to transfer. When a student successfully transfers a retake of course, the initial grade value is removed from the calculation of Wheaton GPA, but the original grade remains on the transcript as a historical record. - Making an appointment with academic advising or with a faculty advisor to discuss class choices for the future.
Withdraw or Cancel Enrollment
Any student finding it necessary to withdraw from the College while currently enrolled in class must complete and submit the Withdraw or Cancel Enrollment Form. For more information on the Form and process, see this page.
Students withdrawing from all full-semester courses between the third and thirteenth week of classes, or from all A-Quad or B-Quad courses between the third and fifth week of the respective Quad, will have "W" (withdrawal) recorded on their transcript for those courses. After the respective withdrawal deadlines, students are not able to withdraw from the College and will receive the grade(s) earned at the end of the term.
Leave of Absence
The purpose of a Leave of Absence (LOA) is to provide students time away from Wheaton College for treatment of a medical or mental health condition that impairs a student’s ability to function successfully or safely as a member of the Wheaton College community. Wheaton has designed this policy to ensure that students are given the individualized consideration and support necessary to address their particular circumstances.
