Kirk D. Farney, Ph.D.Vice President for Advancement, Vocation, and Alumni Engagement;
On Faculty since 2014
|
During a successful 26-year career in global banking, Kirk Farney endeavored to cultivate the life of the mind. He pursued ongoing graduate education, requiring systematic study in various fields, in between corporate duties in the financial markets. During the same time, he engaged in active, less formal study during weekends and evenings, and during countless flights around the globe. Additionally, he served within higher education as a board member and frequent classroom lecturer at multiple colleges and universities.
In 2008, he chose to step away from his banking responsibilities to devote the rest of his career to the academy. At that time, he entered full-time graduate work at the University of Notre Dame, going on to complete a Ph.D. in American Religious History. In 2014, Kirk moved into full-time vocational engagement in higher education, coming to Wheaton as a Vice President. While his administrative duties prevent him from spending as much time in the classroom as he would like, Kirk holds faculty rank in the History Department, and enjoys lecturing, writing, and interacting with students. He is passionate about excellence in Christian liberal arts education.
