Biography
Annika Stucky is a purposeful and passionate pedagogue, conductor, and leader. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music, Choral Conductor at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. Dr. Stucky completed her Ph.D. in Choral Conducting–Music Education at Florida State University, her M.M. in Choral Conducting at Texas Christian University, and earned dual bachelors’ degrees in Music Education and Spanish Education from Kansas State University.
At Wheaton College, Dr. Stucky conducts the Women’s Chorale and Men’s Glee Club. She also teaches courses in conducting and music education. Her research interests include representation in choral music, programming in choral music, like-voiced ensembles, music perception and cognition, and music teacher education.
While at Florida State University, Dr. Stucky served as an assistant conductor for Levana, Choral Union, and the Tallahassee Community Chorus. During a faculty transition, she was also the conductor/Instructor of Record for Levana. Dr. Stucky invested in preservice music educators as a graduate teaching assistant in undergraduate conducting, choral techniques and methods, and College Teaching: Music in Higher Education. Additionally, Dr. Stucky served as an assistant conductor for the Festival Singers of Florida. As a graduate teaching assistant at Texas Christian University, Dr. Stucky was an assistant conductor for the TCU Chorale and TCU Frog Corps, and a graduate teaching assistant in conducting courses. She was also the conductor for a TCU and community production of Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Before pursuing graduate degrees, Dr. Stucky taught high school choir in Junction City, Kansas for five years. In addition to the program’s six choral ensembles, she served as the Fine Arts and Human Services Academy Leader, taught class piano, assisted in orchestra, and was an assistant director for the musical each year. Dr. Stucky’s ensembles received multiple invitations to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association state conference and for regional and national audiences. She was honored as the Outstanding Senior in Music at Kansas State University and received the Alexander Award for excellence in education.
A lifetime church musician, Dr. Stucky has held positions at First Christian Church in Manhattan, Kansas and at First Baptist Church of Tallahassee in Florida. She has invested in choirs of all ages and has a heart for community music-making.
Dr. Stucky is an active clinician, researcher, and conference presenter. She has adjudicated and conducted honor choirs in Kansas and Florida. She has also presented her research and given conference sessions at numerous state, regional, and national conferences, including the Kansas Music Education Association, Texas Music Education Association, Florida Music Education Association, Kansas and Florida Chapters of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Southern and Southwest Regions of ACDA, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization. She has twice been named a graduate conducting finalist for ACDA regional conferences. Her professional affiliations include national, regional, and state levels of ACDA and National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society.
