Angela Fortner McKoy, Ph.D.Guest Assistant Professor, General Chemistry and Biochemistry
On Faculty since 2014
|
Dr. McKoy came to Wheaton College in 2014 as a visiting professor in Biochemistry. Her post doctoral work is in X-ray crystallographic structure determination and expression and purification of polyproteins. While at Princeton University she worked on the discovery of compounds that rescue Alzheimer's peptide toxicity through E. coli protein expression screening.

Gold Nanoparticle Based FRET Asssay for the Detection of DNA Cleavage, Journal of Physical Chemistry
Paresh Chandra Ray, Angela Fortner, and Gopala Krishna Darbha
We report gold nanoparticle based FRET assay to monitor the cleavage of DNA by nucleases. Fluorescence signal enhancement is observed by a factor of 120 after the cleavage reaction in the presence of S1 nuclease.

Gold-nanoparticle-based miniaturized laser-induced fluorescence probe for specific DNA hybridization detection: studies on size-dependent optical properties, Nanotechnology
Chan Kyu Kim, Rajamohan R Kalluru, Jagdish P Singh, Angela Fortner, Jelani Griffin, Gopala K Darbha and Paresh Chandra Ray
A compact, highly specific, inexpensive and user friendly optical fibre laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) sensor based on fluorescence quenching by nanoparticles has been developed to detect single-strand (ss-) DNA hybridization at femtomolar level.

Laser-induced fluorescence quenching of tagged oligonucleotide probes by gold nanoparticles, Chemical Physics Letters
Paresh Chandra Ray, Angela Fortner, Jelani Griffin, Chan Kyu Kim, Jagdish P. Singh, Hongtao Yu
Laser induced fluorescence studies of single-strand (ss) DNA hybridization based on fluorescence quenching by gold nanoparticle through a distant dependent process has been carried out. Distance- and size-dependent optical absorption properties have been described using extended Mie calculations and compared with the experimental findings.

Near infrared photo-induced DNA damage in the presence of copper-dppz complex: Evidence for the involvement of singlet oxygen, Chemical Physics Letters
Angela Fortner, Shugwang Wang, Gopala Krishna Darbha, Anandhi Ray, Hongtao Yu, Paresh Chandra Ray, Rajamohan R. Kalluru, Chan Kyu Kim, Vinita Rai, Jagdish P. Singh
We present the effect of the DNA damage efficiency by excitation wavelengths above 700 nm within d–d transition bands of (l-lysine) (dppz) Cu(II) complexes.
