For the past six years Dr. Alan Seaman (Professor of TESOL) has been the Senior Editor of the Passport to Adventure, an English as a Foreign Language series. This massive project involved not only writing the material, but also arranging audio recordings (over many weekends) with a children’s choir from the Community School of the Arts and Wheaton College conservatory musicians to produce original songs for the various books.
This is a textbook series for children in Christian schools in Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe—a major endeavor at integrating faith with foreign language education in national schools.
Each level (PK-6) has taken over a year to finalize, and Alan has been developing these multiple levels simultaneously. Every decision goes through Alan: editorial, copy-editing, design, audio recording, teacher-training program for the series, as well as hiring and payments. He was assisted by a series of TESOL graduate students who were hired as Project Managers.
In addition, Alan has published over 25 journal articles on TESOL and materials for teachers to use in adult education. He has been involved in over 75 invited conference presentations and international workshops.
