Wheaton College Physics Major Michael Vieceli ’20 Receives NRC Fellowship

Wheaton College Physics major Michael Vieceli ’20 has received a fellowship from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to support upcoming graduate studies in Medical Physics at Purdue University beginning in Fall 2020. The award includes a stipend, medical insurance contribution, graduate tuition remission, and funds for travel, books, and supplies.

Michael writes, “I am very excited to continue my education in medical physics at Purdue University starting this fall, and I am very honored and blessed to have been awarded the NRC Fellowship. This fellowship will support me as a research assistant with exciting opportunities to do research projects in proton beam therapy, boron neutron capture therapy, or other radiation-related projects. My physics education at Wheaton College has prepared me well to begin advanced physics studies in radiation therapy, providing me with a solid foundation of the fundamental principles of physics and a strong understanding of scientific practice. While at Wheaton, I also had the opportunity to work in research collaboration with Maryellen Giger, Ph.D, the A.N. Pritzker Professor of Radiology and member of the Committee on Medical Physics at the University of Chicago, and her lab members. It has prepared me for graduate level research and undoubtedly played a significant part in me being selected for this fellowship.”
