Applying to WheTEP
We want to ensure that all Education majors have the heart, disposition, and academic grades to earn a successful initial teaching license in the state of IL. We have resources and tips to help make your WheTEP application process as successful as possible.
All sophomores (undergraduate majors) and juniors (accelerated MAT) will apply to WheTEP in their spring semesters. Completed applications include an up-to-date professional resume and polished essay among the requirements. Strong applications will advance a WheTEP applicant to a formal interview with Department of Education faculty.
More information will be given to current students in their foundation education courses.
Requirements for WheTEP
- Successful passage of the Education Department’s Day of Assessments, completed as part of Education 101: The Teaching Profession
- GPA of 2.8 (undergraduate), 3.0 (graduate)
- No grade lower than C- in Education Foundation Coursework
- Acceptable Performance in all practica
- Positive Recommendation from major department (secondary/PK-12 education)
- Successful interview with Education faculty member

- Sarah Laribee from the CVC will have office hours in the Department of Education. Check with the Education Office for updated day and times
- Stop by CVC drop-ins from 9:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. (M-F)
