Assistant Professor-Nutritional Science
Job Description
The Department of Biological and Health Sciences (BHS) at Wheaton College (IL) seeks candidates for an appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nutrition starting in August 2024. A PhD in nutritional science, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience or closely-related field is preferred, but candidates from all areas of nutrition are encouraged to apply. Current facilities include cell culture capabilities, fluorescence microscopy, qRT-PCR machine, HPLC, and DEXA scanning. The department also houses a vivarium for animal husbandry and associated animal lab testing areas. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of teacher-scholars in a Division that plans to expand teaching and scholarly opportunities in biochemistry, conservation and health ecology, neuroscience, and public health as part of a College-wide strategic investment process.
The Assistant Professor will be expected to
(1) teach our required introductory upper-level nutrition course, preferably from a cellular/molecular perspective,
(2) teach 1-2 additional upper-level nutrition courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and
(3) teach 1-2 other courses as-needed to support the Biological and Health Sciences curriculum (e.g., Introduction to Biology, Research Methods, Capstone) and our innovative General Education (“Christ at the Core”) curriculum.
