FPE Abroad: International Study Program

FPE Abroad International Study Programs Overview

The FPE Abroad International Study Program focuses on the interaction of political and economic policy, the effects of globalization on human flourishing, and the economic well-being of countries in the study area. Students take part in numerous site visits and hear lectures from business leaders and diplomats. This program features on-campus and off-campus learning, and as part of the course work, student teams, with faculty guidance, develop research projects designed to be presented at the corporate or policy executive level.

Announcing FPE Abroad International Study Program 2025:

Switzerland | Netherlands | Germany | France | United Kingdom

In summer 2025 FPE Abroad ISP will explore the changing relationship between the United States an Western Europe, as well as the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. The tentative dates for this trip are May 12-July 5. Students will earn 8 credit hours. Coursework will begin on campus and conclude at the Château d'Hauteville in Vevey, Switzerland. After the intensive classes end, students will embark on a month of travel to the Netherlands, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom where they will engage directly with world leaders in small meeting settings, as well as explore cultural sites. FPE Director, Captain David Iglesias, will lead the travel portion along with other Wheaton faculty members.

The anticipated program cost is estimated at $8,000, which includes tuition and inter-country travel/accommodations. While abroad, students will be responsible for two main out of pocket costs: their international airfare to and from Europe and certain meals (along with any souvenirs they may wish to purchase). We encourage students to ballpark their total cost at around $9,700.

Questions about this trip can be sent to fpe@wheaton.edu.

International Study Program

Wheaton's oldest overseas study trip was called the "International Study Program" when it was founded in 1971. It was run annually by Wheaton Economics professor Bob Bartel and Mrs. Shirley Bartel who ran the program until 1980. The ISP was then run by Political Science Professor Mark Amstutz. Initially all ISP trips were to Western Europe. The program's last summer was in 1987.  In 2010, the program was revived upon the establishment of the Wheaton Center for Faith, Politics & Economics. The program was called "ISI" until 2019 when the original name was re-instituted.  Truly international in scope, the 21st Century ISP studies political economy issues and meets leaders all over the world.
